Grouping

Fun with Numbers

Activity 3 (25 September 2013)

Eggs in Nests

Materials needed: Egg cartons, play dough, numeral cards

Step 1: Children to pretend putting groups of 'eggs' into twelve 'nests'.

Step 2: Children will pick a number card and place it on the table. Using a large ball of dough, they will make that number of 'eggs' for each 'nest' in the egg carton.

Step 3: When all twelve 'nests' have groups of 'eggs', children will count the total number of 'eggs'. One way to do this is to remove the 'eggs' one by one and join them together to form a large ball of dough again.
